Embark with us on the Classic 4-Day Choquequirao Trek, an unforgettable journey through the heart of the Cusco region, where ancient paths lead to the hidden gems of the Inca Empire. This trek offers a rare opportunity to explore the Choquequirao ruins.
It is often called the “Cradle of Gold”, a remote and lesser-known Inca site that rivals the majesty of Machu Picchu. Following in the footsteps of explorers like Hiram Bingham, we will traverse high altitudes. We will camp under starlit skies, and immerse ourselves in the grandeur of Peru’s mountains.
The Choquequirao hike spans approximately 62 kilometers (39 miles) from trailhead to summit. It reaches altitudes as high as 3,050 meters (10,006 feet) above sea level. This trek demands determination, but the reward is immense.
Along the way, you will pass through spectacular landscapes, from lush valleys to steep canyons. The trail takes us across diverse ecosystems—arid terrains and river crossings—until we reach the mystical Choquequirao ruins.
The guided tour begins with a descent into the Apurímac Canyon. We will reach Playa Rosalina at 1,500 meters (4,921 feet) above sea level. We will cross hanging bridges and climb steep paths. It is surrounded by Andean flora and fauna, including the famous llama terraces.
Here the ancient agricultural practices still echo the ingenuity of the Incas. The journey continues uphill to the Choquequirao plateau. It offers breathtaking views of the snow-capped peaks and cloud forests surrounding the ancient city.
Camping along the Choquequirao trail is an adventure on its own. We will provide all essential camping equipment, ensuring comfort and safety throughout the trek. Meals will be freshly prepared, giving you the energy needed for each challenging day hike. The nights at camp are peaceful and restorative, accompanied by the sounds of nature beneath clear Andean skies.
The dry season from April to October offers the best trekking conditions, with minimal rain and crisp mountain air. However, the high season brings more visitors to these hidden ruins. During the rainy season between November and March, fewer travelers attempt the trek, adding a sense of solitude to the adventure for those seeking it. Either way, the Choquequirao trek is an unparalleled experience for those ready to connect with Peru’s rich history and natural beauty.
This trek provides an intimate encounter with the past and the landscape, making it a perfect complement to those planning to visit Machu Picchu.
Get ready to walk where the ancients once did, camp under the Andean sky, and uncover stories hidden for centuries. The Choquequirao hike will challenge your endurance, but it will reward you with memories that last a lifetime. Join us for this transformative journey through the timeless trails of Cusco’s highlands.
The Choquequirao Trail 4 Days offers an exhilarating mix of adventure, history, and breathtaking landscapes.
